The Prize intends to award a work of particular excellence in the domain of the Philosophy of Science, whether regarding general epistemological problems or particular scientific areas. Science is here intended in a broad sense to include mathematics, computer science, medicine, economics and the social sciences, as well as the natural sciences such as physics, chemistry and biology.

Only original and recent works of a single author, from any nationality or professional affiliation, published during the five previous years (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012) will be taken into consideration.
